The borough covers a total land area of 6.73 square miles and a water area of 0.16 square miles, reflecting its predominantly terrestrial, gently rolling landscape. The Passaic River watershed influences the region's natural character, and the area features a mix of wooded tracts, open lawns associated with corporate estates, and quiet residential streets.

Newark Liberty International Airport, approximately 20 miles to the east, serves as the primary commercial airport for residents and businesses in the area.

History

Florham Park was incorporated as a borough in 1899, carved out of Chatham Township and Hanover Township in Morris County. The area gained its name and early prestige from the grand Florham estate developed by Florence Vanderbilt Twombly and her husband Hamilton McKim Twombly in the late nineteenth century, a sprawling property that helped define the borough's refined character. Today, portions of that historic estate are occupied by Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Campus, preserving a tangible connection to the borough's gilded past.

Did you know?

One of the more surprising facts about Florham Park is that its landscape was partly shaped by one of America's wealthiest Gilded Age families, the Vanderbilts, whose estate grounds still influence the borough's open, parklike aesthetic today. The New York Jets NFL franchise also maintained its training facility and headquarters, known as the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, in Florham Park, bringing national sports recognition to this quiet Morris County borough.
