About ZIP codes by state

The United States Postal Service (USPS) assigns ZIP codes to geographic areas to facilitate efficient mail delivery. Each state has its own range of ZIP codes — for example, Florida ZIP codes begin with 32 or 33, while Texas ZIP codes begin with 75–79. ZIP codes were introduced in 1963 as part of the Zone Improvement Plan (ZIP). Today there are over 42,000 ZIP codes covering all 50 states, Washington D.C., and US territories including Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands.
